The new pastor at Barack Obama's church says his predecessor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, was in a sense crucified just like Jesus Christ at the hands of the Romans. According to Fox News, Rev. Otis Moss III titled his Easter sunrise sermon "How to Handle a Public Lynching," focusing mainly on the media firestorm over the Chicago church attended by the Democratic presidential candidate. Moss reportedly did not specify Wright by name, but told the congregation at Trinity United Church of Christ that Wright, who has delivered sermons in which he likened the U.S. to the Ku Klux Klan and saying it is damned for its state-sponsored terrorism, is facing the same challenges Jesus did.

Gov. Paterson says he may have used campaign cash for hotel hookup
Gov. Paterson admitted Wednesday he may have improperly billed his campaign for at least one hotel tryst with a girlfriend.
The hotel tryst was apparently listed as "constituent services."
A Daily News review found that in a handful of other campaign expenditures, Paterson may have used campaign funds to cover personal expenses and misstated their purpose in public disclosure forms.
The records also show he made reimbursements, but he acknowledged he may have failed to pony up in one instance.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The owner of a famous cheesesteak shop did not discriminate when he posted signs asking customers to speak English, a city panel ruled Wednesday.
In a 2-1 vote, a Commission on Human Relations panel found that two signs at Geno's Steaks telling customers, "This is America: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH,'" do not violate the city's Fair Practices Ordinance.

One day after Barack Obama delivered a speech calling for improved race relations in America, the blogosphere was buzzing Wednesday about whether his campaign planned to remove an endorsement by the New Black Panther Party from his Web site.
The New Black Panthers, who inherited their name from the Black Panther Party of the 1960s, has a page on the Obama campaign’s public forums that says it is backing Obama because he “represents ‘positive change’ for all of America. Obama will stir the ‘Melting Pot’ into a better ‘Molten America,’” the group says.
The NBPP, which has been led since 2001 by Malik Zulu Shabbazz, is identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a tolerance education organization, as an extremist hate group. The Anti-Defamation League calls NBPP “the largest organized anti-Semitic black militant group in America. … Under Shabazz, the group continues to organize demonstrations across the country that blend inflammatory bigotry with calls for black empowerment and civil rights.”

Poll suggests Iraqis 'optimistic'

More than 50% of Iraqis think their lives are good, more than at any time in the last three years, a survey says.
The poll for the BBC, ABC, ARD and NHK of more than 2,000 people also suggests that a majority believe that security in their area has improved since 2007.
And while most Iraqis still believe US troops are making things worse, the number who want the Americans to pull out immediately has fallen.

What happens if the presidential election comes down to the state of Ohio again this November, just like in 2004? Democrats seem stumped in the south, and Florida might be completely out of the running. As weak as the Republican Party is at this point in history, it hasn't seemed to translate to John McCain.
It appears that he may have bucked the Republican Party enough that he seems to come off as just clean enough in the minds of many voters that are fed up with the GOP. Add to that the fact at least half the country despises Hillary Clinton and now Barack Obama is being slammed with scandals.
In one recent Florida poll Obama trails McCain by 16 points in Florida. Sixteen points! Hillary won't win Florida either. That means we may be right back to the 2004 scenario of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Missouri being the key to the 2008 election. Missouri will likely go to McCain no matter which Democratic candidate he runs against.

Laurie Dhue Leaves FNC
Wish it was Geraldo that was going.TVNewser has learned Laurie Dhue and Fox News Channel have parted ways. The anchor and FNC management could not agree on a new contract. A Fox News spokesperson tells TVNewser, "Unfortunately, we were unable to come to terms on a new agreement with Laurie. She has been a valued member of FOX News, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
Dhue has been with Fox for more than seven years, joining in September of 2000. In addition to hosting FNC programs during her tenure, Dhue was also a correspondent on the syndicated version of Geraldo at Large.
Since September she has been working as ombudswoman for The O'Reilly Factor for a segment called "The Dhue Point." In what would be her last installment Thursday night, Bill O'Reilly told Dhue, "I hope you know, this is my favorite segment of the week."

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton essentially even in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination.
It’s Obama 46% Clinton 45% (see recent daily results). This reflects an unusually sharp change from yesterday’s results when Obama led by eight points and reached the 50% level of support for the first time. Daily tracking results are collected via nightly telephone surveys and reported on a four-day rolling average basis. Last night’s results were very favorable for Clinton and it remains to be seen whether this marks a lasting change in the race or is merely statistical noise. Single night results are based upon very small samples and are more volatile than the overall tracking poll.

Danbury (AP) _ Danbury officials have been notified they are being sued by a student who was awakened in class by a teacher who made a loud noise.
Documents filed with the Town Clerk, a prelude to a lawsuit, claim that a sleeping student suffered hearing damage when his teacher woke him up by slamming her hand down on the boy's desk. in December.
Attorney Alan Barry says 15-year-old Vinicios Robacher suffered pain and "very severe injuries to his left eardrum" when teacher Melissa Nadeau abruptly slammed the palm of her hand on his desk on Dec. 4.

He is not expected to continue his term, multiple sources in the state Legislature tell CBS 2, setting off one of the largest scandals in modern New York state political history.
During a news conference Monday afternoon, Spitzer apologized to his family and public, but did not go as far as to explain why. "I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family," he said in a brief statement along side his wife.
If he does in fact resign, Lt. Gov. David Paterson would be expected to take over as governor.

16,000 Republicans in Cuyahoga crossed over and voted Democratic in primary

A staggering 16,000-plus Republicans in Cuyahoga County switched parties when they voted in last week's primary.
That includes 931 in Rocky River, 1,027 in Westlake and 1,142 in Strongsville. More than a third of the Republicans in Solon and Bay Village switched. Pepper Pike had the most dramatic change: just under half its Republicans became Democrats. And some of those who changed - it's difficult to say how many - could be in trouble with the law.

Bush vetoes bill banning waterboarding (more water)
Every once in awhile George Bush makes me remember why I voted for him.
WASHINGTON - President Bush said Saturday he vetoed legislation that would ban the CIA from using harsh interrogation methods such as waterboarding to break suspected terrorists because it would end practices that have prevented attacks.
"The bill Congress sent me would take away one of the most valuable tools in the war on terror," Bush said in his weekly radio address taped for broadcast Saturday. "So today I vetoed it," Bush said. The bill provides guidelines for intelligence activities for the year and includes the interrogation requirement. It passed the House in December and the Senate last month.
"This is no time for Congress to abandon practices that have a proven track record of keeping America safe," the president said.

It was reported that his illness resulted from food poisoning.

Sen. John McCain of Arizona claimed the GOP nomination Tuesday after rolling up one-sided victories in primaries in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island and Vermont.
"I am very pleased to note that tonight, my friends, we have won enough delegates to claim with confidence, humility and a sense of great responsibility that I will be the Republican nominee for president of the United States," the 71-year-old McCain told cheering supporters in Dallas.
Meanwhile, Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, McCain's main remaining rival, said he was dropping out of the race.

The Weather Channel has lost its way, according to John Coleman, who founded the channel in 1982.
Coleman told an audience at the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change on March 3 in New York that he is highly critical of global warming alarmism.
“The Weather Channel had great promise, and that’s all gone now because they’ve made every mistake in the book on what they’ve done and how they’ve done it and it’s very sad,” Coleman said. “It’s now for sale and there’s a new owner of The Weather Channel will be announced – several billion dollars having changed hands in the near future. Let’s hope the new owners can recapture the vision and stop reporting the traffic, telling us what to think and start giving us useful weather information.”

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is sending 10 battalions of troops to country's border with Colombia.
He's also ordered the Venezuelan embassy in Bogota closed and say all embassy personnel will be withdrawn from Colombia.
The announcements by Venezuela's leftist leader pushed relations with its neighbor to their tensest point of his 9-year presidency.
Chavez is also warning that Colombia could spark a war in South America, calling its U.S.-allied government "a terrorist state" and labeling President Alvaro Uribe (oo-REE'-bay) "a criminal."

While 58 percent of Republicans reported having excellent mental health, only 38 percent of Democrats described themselves that way.
The study was no surprise to D. Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr., a noted psychiatrist and author of a controversial book that makes the clinical case liberalism is a mental illness.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Navy has moved the guided-missile destroyer USS Cole and other ships to the eastern Mediterranean Sea off Lebanon, Pentagon officials said Thursday.
The deployment comes amid a political standoff over Lebanon's presidency, but the Navy would not say whether the events are linked.
The destroyer and two support ships are close to Lebanon but out of visual range of the coast, Pentagon officials said. Another six vessels, led by the amphibious assault ship USS Nassau, are close to Italy and steaming toward the other three, the officials said.

His wife, Michelle, had used his smoking as leverage when the two were discussing whether he should run for president. She would agree only if Obama agreed to give up smoking.

It's starting to look like next Tuesday could be Hillary's last stand.
A new CNN /Opinion Research poll finds Obama ahead of Hillary Clinton Texas 50%-46%. In a similar poll taken a week before, Hillary held a 50%-48% lead.
Keep in mind these numbers are within the polls sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points for Democratic respondents, so statistically, the race is a virtual tie.
The poll was conducted February 22-24.

The consensus forecast of Wall Street economists was for retail sales to fall 0.3%. Auto sales rose in January, a surprise given the weak domestic unit sales reported earlier in the month. Gasoline sales were also rose as a result of higher prices. Excluding autos, sales rose 0.3%, in line with expectations. Excluding gasoline, sales increased 0.1%. Excluding both autos and gas, sales were flat in the month.

"As Muslims we shouldn't celebrate a non-Muslim celebration, especially this one that encourages immoral relations between unmarried men and women, " Sheikh Khaled Al-Dossari, a scholar in Islamic studies, told the Saudi Gazette, an English-language newspaper.

Al-Qaida 'gone to ground' in Diyala

U.S. and Iraqi military forces still hunt for terrorists in northern Iraqi provinces, but al-Qaida "has gone to ground," a military official said Monday.
During a phone conference from outside Tikrit, U.S. Maj. Gen. Mark Hertling updated media on Operation Iron Harvest by U.S. and Iraqi soldiers in the northern provinces, specifically Diyala province.
"Diyala is much safer today than it was a month ago. Citizens are less afraid to go out on the street, and markets are opening," Hertling said. "Al-Qaida has gone to ground. We are hunting them out, where they have gone to ground, or they have dispersed and we are pursuing them to new areas."
But he said work remains to be done to bring normalcy to the province.

The worry is that consumers and businesses will hunker down further and pull back spending, sending the economy into a tailspin.
"Absolutely, we're in a recession," said Hilda Sanchez, 44, of Waterford, Calif.

Back in 1991, before Al Gore first shouted that the Earth was in the balance, the Danish Meteorological Institute released a study using data that went back centuries that showed that global temperatures closely tracked solar cycles.
To many, those data were convincing. Now, Canadian scientists are seeking additional funding for more and better "eyes" with which to observe our sun, which has a bigger impact on Earth's climate than all the tailpipes and smokestacks on our planet combined.
And they're worried about global cooling, not warming.
Kenneth Tapping, a solar researcher and project director for Canada's National Research Council, is among those looking at the sun for evidence of an increase in sunspot activity.
Solar activity fluctuates in an 11-year cycle. But so far in this cycle, the sun has been disturbingly quiet. The lack of increased activity could signal the beginning of what is known as a Maunder Minimum, an event which occurs every couple of centuries and can last as long as a century.

Kenneth Tapping, a solar researcher and project director for Canada's National Research Council, is among those looking at the sun for evidence of an increase in sunspot activity.
Solar activity fluctuates in an 11-year cycle. But so far in this cycle, the sun has been disturbingly quiet. The lack of increased activity could signal the beginning of what is known as a Maunder Minimum, an event which occurs every couple of centuries and can last as long as a century.

MSNBC’s David Shuster Suspended for Chelsea ‘Pimped Out’ Comment
Mark Finkelstein reported on Newsbusters on the 7th, MSNBC's David Shuster made a rather interesting comment about Chelsea Clinton as he was hosting "Tucker" that evening. Shuster asked if Hillary Clinton's use of her daughter on the campaign trail seemed "like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?" Well, NBC has now announced that they've suspended Shuster over the comment.... so much for free political speech.

Update: Helluva speech. Romney covered all the points that are important to conservatives and did so eloquently. McCain couldn't top this in a million years.
Will McCains speech be a olive branch to conservatives and even if it is will it make any difference?
Update II: One question the pollsters are going to need to include in their standard questionaire.....Will you be "suicide voting"? I would hazard a guess that right now close to 20% of the core Republican base is seriously considering doing exactly that.

Republicans for Choice endorses John McCain
Another terrific endorsement...
Our first choice, Rudy Giuliani, did not win. He ran a campaign with a risky strategy and it didn't work. But our number two choice did win...John McCain. McCain came in second in a survey of our membership.
While he is personally "pro life" he has time and again reached out and worked with people across the spectrum. We know we can work with him to create common ground that will allow moderates and conservatives to come together to rebuild the GOP.
RFC joins with Rudy Giuliani in asking our supporters to consider McCain as they go to vote over the next few weeks.

The survey found that 47 percent thought the 12th century English king Richard the Lionheart was a myth.
And 23 percent thought World War II prime minister Churchill was made up. The same percentage thought Crimean War nurse Florence Nightingale did not actually exist.

Bob Dole scolds Limbaugh
This coming from arguably the worst candidate the Republicans have fielded in half a century.
Bob Dole, the former Senate Republican leader, wrote an insistent letter to Rush Limbaugh on Monday and suggested that for the good of the party, the conservative talk-show host should stop his strafing of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
On Monday's show, Limbaugh asserted that McCain has "lied about his reason for opposing the Bush tax cuts," and added: "I think McCain has an animus toward the Republican Party. I think ever since South Carolina 2000 he's had it in for the Republican Party, and one of his objectives is to destroy it and change it."
McCain, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, has always had a shaky relationship with the party’s conservative base.

None better before and most definately since...NEW YORK (AP) - The figure in the photograph is clad in Army fatigues, boots and helmet, lying on his back in peaceful repose, folded hands holding a military cap. Except for a thin trickle of blood from the corner of his mouth, he could be asleep.
But he is not asleep; he is dead. And this is not just another fallen GI; it is Ernie Pyle, the most celebrated war correspondent of World War II.
As far as can be determined, the photograph has never been published. Sixty-three years after Pyle was killed by the Japanese, it has surfaced—surprising historians, reminding a forgetful world of a humble correspondent who artfully and ardently told the story of a war from the foxholes.

McCrazy?
We have long suspected that John McCain may be a skoach unstable. Thanks to our friend Bill for pointing out this great piece at Radiopatriot . It appears that others a good deal more important than us think so as well.The number of fellow Senators who think John McCain is psychologically unstable is large. Some will admit it publicly, like Thad Cochran who says, "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine."
Others relate times when McCain screamed four-letter obscenities right in their faces in the Senate cloak room, like Dick Shelby, Rick Santorum, or Jim Inhofe. "The man is unhinged," one Senator told me. "He is frighteningly unfit to be Commander-in-Chief."
That John McCain is clinically nuts is scary enough. What worries a small group of GOP Senators and Congressmen even more is a deep and dark skeletal secret in McCain's glorified past to which they are privy, and which the Clintons will use to blackmail him.

After wondering for months about how serious Romney was on tackling illegal immigration and the strange endorsement of Tom Tancredo after dropping out of the race, Romney has issued the coup de grace. Mitt Romney has appointed Immigration Warrior Kris Kobach to his advisory staff.
Who is Kris Kobach? Well you may remember Kris as the lead attorney in defending Hazleton, Pennsylvania's Illegal Immigration Relief Act. Kris has been a leader in the fight against illegal immigration in this country and his addition to the Romney team shows that he is deadly serious about ending illegal immigration.
I'm telling you, I'm sitting here just absolutely stunned. That is how unforeseen this was to me.

Mentally Retarded Women Used in Bombings
Just when you thought these murderous scumbags couldn't sink any lower, they do.
BAGHDAD (AP) - Two mentally retarded women strapped with remote-control explosives—and possibly used as unwitting suicide bombers—brought carnage Friday to two pet bazaars, killing at 73 people in the deadliest day since Washington flooded the capital with extra troops last spring.
The coordinated blasts—coming 20 minutes apart in different parts of the city—appeared to reinforce U.S. claims al-Qaida in Iraq may be increasingly desperate and running short of able-bodied men willing or available for such missions.
But they also served as a reminder that Iraqi insurgents are constantly shifting their strategies in attempts to unravel recent security gains around the country. Women have been used in ever greater frequency in suicide attacks.

Last night Ann Coulter shocked many by stating unequivocally that she would campaign and vote for Hillary Clinton if McCain was the Republican nominee.
And after bashing McCain on H&C last night one of our favorite Senators, Rick Santorum, came out forcefullyfor Romney.
Will this have a cumulative effect? Who knows but one thing for sure, a significant number of core conservatives will sit out this election if McCain wins the nomination and I personally believe that number will NOT be offset by a pick up of moderates.
