MVRWC is reporting that she is back up in India along with the rest of us. Working to confirm. Please e-mail or comment if if this is accurate.
If this proves out, you have no one to thank but each other. You did three things that will insure your liberties will remain inviolate:
1. You rose up in unified condemnation of a governmental mandate that attempted to infringe on your rights.
2. You successfully circumvented said action in such a way as to make it meaningless while at the same time portraying the governments mindless attempt ineffectual and impotent.
3. You did so peaceably.
You excercised a textbook example of civil disobedience 101. I salute you all.
Here is the link to a list of Indian bloggers comprising the Bloggers Collective Group.
Update: I have been informed that the blog ban IS NOT over. This site as well as others are still being blockaded. That is all.
Update II: The latest.....Plea to Manmohan Singh to lift blog ban
Chennai, July 20: In a gesture of solidarity with bloggers in India, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lift the “ban” on websites and blogs ordered a week ago.
Expressing concern at the directive to block certain websites “with no official explanation and without judicial or independent review,” the CPJ said the proscription had disrupted the flow of news, information and commentary in a medium of growing importance to the country.
Doesn't sound to me as though anything has changed as least as far as the infamous "gang of 17".
