Barack Obama's decision to play golf on Memorial Day was disrespectful and hardly presidential

The foreign press doing the American MSM's job once again.
Can you imagine David Cameron enjoying a round of golf on Remembrance Sunday? It would be inconceivable for the British Prime Minister to do so, and not just because of the usually dire weather at that time of the year. Above all, it would be viewed as an act of extremely bad taste on a day when the nation remembers and mourns her war dead. I can’t imagine the PM even considering it, and I’m sure his advisers would be horrified at the idea. And if the prime minister ever did play golf on such a sacrosanct day he would be given a massive drubbing by the British press, and it would never be repeated.

Contrast this with President Obama’s decision to play golf yesterday, Memorial Day, for the 70th time during his 28-month long presidency.

Andrew Sullivan Shocks Chris Matthews: Palin Can Beat Obama

Yes she can.
Andrew Sullivan this weekend seemed to shock Chris Matthews when he said that former Alaska governor Sarah Palin could actually beat President Obama in next year's elections running as the "principled candidate" representing "this grassroots movement of cutting government down to size."

Maybe even more surprising, Time's Joe Klein seemed to agree telling the host of "The Chris Matthews Show," "You were around in ’79 and ’80 as I was. Did you see many people in the Carter administration think that Ronald Reagan could beat Jimmy Carter?"

Government Blames Banks for Housing

Typical failed liberal administration, blame anyone but themselves for poor performance.
NAR chief economist Lawrence Nun blames banks for "holding onto huge cash reserves" as the primary reason for the latest plunge in housing. He also cites the weather, oil prices, a temporary soft patch, and everything but motherhood and apple pie.

Pending home sales fell in April with regional variations following increases in February and March, with unusual weather and economic softness adding to ongoing problems that are hobbling a recovery, according to the National Association of Realtors®.

The Pending Home Sales Index,* a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, dropped 11.6 percent to 81.9 in April from a downwardly revised 92.6 in March. The index is 26.5 percent below a cyclical peak of 111.5 in April 2010 when buyers were rushing to beat the contract deadline for the home buyer tax credit.

The data reflects contracts but not closings, which normally occur with a lag time of one or two months.

Palin to Launch National Tour

Sarah Palin has as much or more name recognition than anyone in the field. Waiting untill everyone is sick to death and dejected with the pathetic field of candidates on the Republican side and then jumping in late is brilliant strategy in my opinion.
Palin’s plans are sure to roil a Republican presidential field that had appeared to be taking shape. Her appearance with Rolling Thunder, a gathering of Harley-riding veterans, appears designed to cement her ties with blue-collar voters and underscores the threat she poses to other candidates who had hoped to appeal to the same conservative-leaning constituency.

Among them: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who officially launched his campaign this week; ex-Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., who has set an official campaign launch for June 6, and Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., who raised $240,000 just over 24 hours on Thursday before heading to Iowa, where she will headline a Friday GOP fundraiser. Bachmann had to cancel plans to attend another Republican Party dinner in Des Moines on Thursday because of a House vote. She has said she will announce her presidential intentions in June.

Crawford indicated to National Journal that any announcement about Palin’s plans may be months away. Last week, in an interview with Fox News, Palin said that her timetable will be dictated by legal filing deadlines, the first of which falls in October, when Utah requires candidates to file for its presidential primary ballot.

Supreme Court upholds Arizona employer sanctions law

SCOTUS beotch slaps the ninth circuit. One would think this would be a no-brainer but then again, 4 Supreme Court justices are quite similar in temperament to the ninth.
Under Arizona's 2007, Legal Arizona Workers Act, commonly called the employer-sanctions law, a business' license can be revoked or suspended for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants. The law also requires Arizona employers to use a federal electronic system, called E-Verify, that validates the Social Security numbers and immigration status of new hires.

The ruling comes months after Arizona appealed a federal court ruling that blocked key components of a second, more controversial Arizona immigration enforcement law, known as SB 1070.

That law makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally. A federal judge has blocked parts of SB 1070 from taking effect, and debate over its constitutionality is expected to reach the Supreme Court.

In Thursday's 5-3 decision, the justices ruled that the employer-sanctions law falls within existing federal law and within the Arizona's authority to license business.

Durables Fall More Than Expected

So much of this is dependent on the depressed new/resale housing market. Until that shows some decent improvement everything else will languish.
Durable goods orders were down 3.6% in April, compared with expectations of a 2.2% decline. Last month’s gain was revised up to 4.4% from 4.1%.

This is one more piece of evidence lining up on the side of those seeing a slowdown in the second quarter (and maybe beyond). The upward revisions to March’s numbers do ease the sting a touch, but this could bring down some second-quarter GDP forecasts.

AARP's ObamaCare Endgame Revealed

AARP is not interested in Seniors, they're interested only one thing, self perpetuation.
We now have a clear picture of the treachery in which AARP has engaged since President Obama took office. The Daily Caller reports that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has granted Medigap policy sellers, including the American Association of Retired Persons, exemption from ObamaCare-mandated federal supervision of insurance premium hikes. "Medigap" is an industry term for a type of coverage that helps pay medical costs not covered by Medicare.

Non-Medigap insurers, not exempted from ObamaCare's rate reviews, must justify rate increases. In effect, the HHS exemption gives AARP the ability to generate profits not achievable by non-exempted competitors.

It's important to remember that AARP helped push ObamaCare through Congress by contributing to a $121 million advertising campaign and paying for millions of dollars worth of Washington lobbying. AARP has betrayed the seniors whose interests the organization allegedly protects and positioned itself to make billions after playing along with the Obama administration's corporatist favoritism.

Gallup: 61 Percent Say All or Most Abortions Should Be Illegal

Well at least 61 out of 100 Americans still have a semblance of conscience.
Sixty-one percent of American adults—including some who describe themselves as “pro-choice”—told Gallup in a survey conducted May 5-8 that abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances.

The Gallup survey, published today, asked 1,018 American adults whether they considered themselves “pro-choice” or “pro-life” on abortion. It also asked: “Do you think abortions should be legal under any circumstances, legal only under certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?”

For those who answered that abortion should be “legal only under certain circumstances,” Gallup asked the follow-up question: “Do you think abortion should be legal in most circumstances or only in a few circumstances?”

Forty-nine percent told Gallup they were pro-choice and 45 percent said they were pro-life, marking the first time since May 2008 that the percentage of Americans describing themselves to Gallup as pro-choice exceeded the percentage describing themselves as pro-life.

Scott Brown a 'no' on Ryan budget

Just solidifying his RINO bonafides.
GOP Sen. Scott Brown (Mass.) said Monday he won't support Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) budget when it comes up for a vote in the Senate.

Brown, a centrist who is running for reelection in 2012, said that Ryan's plan helped jumpstart a necessary debate, but that Ryan's Medicare reforms go too far.

"While I applaud Ryan for getting the conversation started, I cannot support his specific plan — and therefore will vote 'no' on his budget," he wrote in a Politico op-ed.

Supreme Court judge [Kagan] suspected of deception during confirmation hearings

Unfortunately nothing will likely come of this.
A Washington, DC-based public-interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption reported on Friday that its officials have obtained documents suggesting US Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan helped coordinate the Obama administration’s legal defense of the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) while she served as Solicitor General.

During her confirmation, Kagan claimed she was not involved in the Department of Justice (DOJ) preparations for legal challenges to Obamacare. Moreover, the Supreme Court justice did not recuse herself from the High Court decision in April 2011 when she and other Justices refused to “fast-track” the Supreme Court review of Virginia’s lawsuit challenging Obamacare.

Student defies ACLU at graduation, leads public prayer

Remember, the prohibition of religion is NOT freedom of religion!
A student who objected to prayer being part of Bastrop High School's 2011 graduation ceremonies enlisted the help of the American Civil Liberties Union. However, another student whose role was to call for a moment of silence during Friday's ceremony led the audience in prayer despite the ACLU objections.

The News-Star of Monroe said the ACLU had urged Bastrop Principal Stacey Pullen to ensure that prayer not be on the program.

But senior Laci Rae Mattice, when it came time for the moment of silence, drew cheers and applause when she said, "I want to ask for the Lord's blessings upon us."

She then led the audience in the Lord's Prayer, "if they wanted to."

Pullen said Mattice had been instructed not to mention religion and only observe a moment of silence. It was unclear if the prayer would result in any legal action.

Morehouse Parish Superintendent Tom Thrower, who attended the event, had little to say on the matter.

Kloppenburg Loses Again

Witchiepoo will likely try everything in the book but this thing is over.
With the weeks-long recount complete, unofficial numbers confirm that state Supreme Court Justice David Prosser narrowly defeated Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg in the April 5 election.

But the battle may not be over yet, as Kloppenburg mulls whether to challenge the results in court.

And if a legal contest goes on long enough, attorneys say it could delay efforts to swear Prosser in for a new term on Aug. 1, leading to a temporary vacancy on the closely divided high court.

Final recount numbers submitted to the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board show Prosser with 7,006 more votes than Kloppenburg.

Nord Des Lignes They Say No Way

The present Canadian administration knows the score on this one.
The Harper government is refusing to join the United States in calling for a return to 1967 borders as a starting point for Mideast peace, a position that has drawn sharp criticism from Canada’s staunch ally Israel.

At a briefing ahead of the upcoming G8 summit in France, federal officials said the basis for the negotiations must be mutually agreed upon.

AARP Gets An Obamacare Waiver

Expectedly shocking.
The Daily Caller has learned that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rate review rules, which it finalized on Thursday, exempt “Medigap” policy providers, like the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), from oversight when such providers increase payment rates for their supplemental insurance plans.

Insurance providers who aren’t exempt from Obamacare’s rate review rules are required to publicly release and explain some health care payment rate increases.

The AARP is the nation’s biggest seller of Medigap policies, or supplemental healthcare plans that add onto what Medicare won’t cover for seniors. The senior citizens interest group advocated for Obamacare to include an attack on Medigap policies’ biggest competitor, Medicare Advantage.

Obama yet again hitches our plowhorse to another crapwagon.
The Hamas movement called US President Barack Obama's Mideast policy speech a "complete failure," saying it was like "throwing sand in the eyes of the public."

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri claimed the speech lacked content, adding that his organization "is opposed to intervention in our internal affairs." Abu Zuhri urged the Palestinian Authority to dismiss the speech, and emphasized the need to "coordinate the stances of Palestinian forces against the American arrogance."

Obama promises one billion and 50M tons of wheat To Middle East

Great, now Arab farmers can use their crop to produce ethanol
WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama will announce this week a new aid plan for the Middle East and North Africa that U.S. officials say will be far bolder than previous American economic assistance to the region.

Mr. Obama will outline the plan, which could include debt cancellation and a reprogramming of financial aid the U.S. already provides to countries like Egypt, in a speech he is scheduled to deliver Thursday at the State Department.

Whatever aid he announces, though, is unlikely to assuage Arab governments, which had been hoping the White House would push forcibly for a resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks. The president’s aides say his speech will focus only briefly on the issue.

White House Shuts Out Boston Herald for Perceived "unfainess"

Words escape me.
The White House Press Office has refused to give the Boston Herald full access to President Obama’s Boston fund-raiser today, in e-mails objecting to the newspaper’s front page placement of a Mitt Romney op-ed, saying pool reporters are chosen based on whether they cover the news “fairly.”

“I tend to consider the degree to which papers have demonstrated to covering the White House regularly and fairly in determining local pool reporters,” White House spokesman Matt Lehrich wrote in response to a Herald request for full access to the presidential visit.

“My point about the op-ed was not that you ran it but that it was the full front page, which excluded any coverage of the visit of a sitting US President to Boston. I think that raises a fair question about whether the paper is unbiased in its coverage of the President’s visits,” Lehrich wrote.

IN Sheriff: If We Need to Conduct Random House to House Searches We Will

The decision was no such thing and the authority does not exist. Expect this kind of crapola to be shot down soon.
CROWN POINT, Ind. – According to Newton County Sheriff, Don Hartman Sr., random house to house searches are now possible and could be helpful following the Barnes v. STATE of INDIANA Supreme Court ruling issued on May 12th, 2011. When asked three separate times due to the astounding callousness as it relates to trampling the inherent natural rights of Americans, he emphatically indicated that he would use random house to house checks, adding he felt people will welcome random searches if it means capturing a criminal.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, a local city Police Chief with 30 years experience in law enforcement directly contradicted the Newton County Sheriff’s blatant disregard for privacy & liberty, stating that as an American first, such an action is unconscionable and that his allegiance is to the Indiana and federal Constitutions respectively. However, he also concurred that the ruling does now allow for police to randomly search homes should a department be under order by state or federal officials or under a department’s own accord.

At this time we are still awaiting comments from several state offices.

Housing Starts Still in the Toilet

I've said it before, I'll say it again, untill this changes the economy will flounder.
Housing starts and permits for future home construction fell in April as an overhang of homes on the market discouraged builders from taking on new projects, pointing to prolonged weakness in the housing sector.

The Commerce Department said on Tuesday housing starts dropped 10.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 523,000 units. March's starts were revised up to a 585,000-unit pace from the previously reported rate of 549,000 units.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast housing starts rising to a 568,000-unit rate. Compared to April last year, residential construction was down 23.9 percent, the largest decline since October 2009.

Self Immolation

Can you say toast?
This morning Republicans are just beginning to assess the damage that former House Speaker and current presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has done to the GOP budget plan currently before Congress. On "Meet the Press" Sunday, Gingrich denounced House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan's plan to restructure Medicare, saying, "I don't think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering. I don't think imposing radical change from the right or the left is a very good way for a free society to operate."

An Inconveient Situation

Speaking of Socialists...

Arrest Throws France Into Disarray and Disbelief

For months, France has been buzzing with speculation that Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the popular chief of the International Monetary Fund, would quit his job in Washington to take on President Nicolas Sarkozy in next year’s presidential elections. On Sunday, French politicians and media met news of his arrest in New York for alleged sexual aggression with stunned disbelief and expressions of national humiliation. The incident threw Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s political party, the Socialists, into confusion and set the stage for a new political calculus that could allow the National Front, the far-right party led by its founder’s daughter, Marine Le Pen, to become a more dominant force during the election campaign.

Even as pollsters cautioned against rushing to judgment and as Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said his client “will plead not guilty,” his would-be rivals were quick to declare his political death.

Mike Huckabee NOT running for President

Good! This Christian Socialist with the delivery of a used car salesman was just muddying the waters.
Mike Huckabee has officially pulled the trigger—and his presidential aspirations are dead, at least for 2012. Huckabee officially announced that he will not run on his Fox News show tonight. "All the factors say go, but my heart says no," he said. "I know that under the best of circumstances, being president is a job that takes one to the limit of his or her capacity. I can't know or predict the future, but I know for now my answer is clear and firm: I will not seek the Republican nomination for president this year."

The decision will allow him to stick with a lucrative career as a television and radio personality rather than enter a race that would be both costly and caustic, reports the AP.

Teacher Forbids Boy From Hanging U.S. Flag Picture

Guess what state, c'mon guess...
An 11-year-old boy is in the middle of flag controversy after he and his family claim one of his teachers banned him from hanging a picture of an American flag he drew in the classroom because it might offend other students. The boy‘s dad is adamant his son’s civil rights were violated. But the school has a different take, and says the prohibition was because the boy disobeyed instructions:

The Butterfield Elementary School is at the center of controversy for the incident on Monday. According to Frankie Girard’s father, John, the boy was in art class drawing a picture.

“He was denied hanging the flag up. And, he asked if he could just even hang it on his desk, and he was told no. He could take the picture that he drew and take it home and be proud of it there,” Girard said.

U.S. trade deficit hits 9-month high in March

Another stellar milestone achieved by Obamanomics.
The U.S. trade deficit widened sharply
in March to the highest level in nine months despite a new record high for exports of goods and services, government data showed Wednesday.

The trade deficit — that is, the difference between exports and imports — widened to $48.2 billion for the month from a downwardly revised $45.4 billion in February, originally reported as $45.8 billion.

Imports of goods and services rose by 4.9% to a seasonally adjusted $220.8 billion during March, while exports rose 4.6% to $172.7 billion, the Commerce Department estimated. This was the biggest one-month jump in exports since March 1994.

Home values see biggest drop since 2008 in first quarter

From bad to worse.
U.S. home values fell in the first quarter at the fastest rate since late 2008, real estate data firm Zillow Inc said Monday, suggesting that a bottom will not be seen until 2012 at the earliest.

Zillow said its home value index fell 3 percent in the first three months of the year from the previous quarter, and was down 8.2 percent year-over-year.

The number of homeowners under water -- or, those who owe more on the mortgage than their house is currently worth -- amounted to 28.4 percent of single-family homeowners, representing a peak since Zillow began calculating the data in 2009.

McCain's approval 2nd lowest among U.S. senators

You had your chance in 10 Arizona and you blew it.
John McCain has the second-lowest approval rating among U.S. senators, according to a new poll.

About one-third of Arizona's registered voters approve of McCain's job performance - 34 percent compared with 53 percent who disapprove of the job he's doing - according to a new poll by Public Policy Polling.

That's a drop from 40 percent approval in January.

Only Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) scored lower among sitting senators, 29 percent to 58 percent.

Bin Laden 'may have lived in Pakistan for over 7 years

And Pakistani officials didn't know? Talk about "a willing suspension of disbelief".
ISLAMABAD: Osama bin Laden may have lived in Pakistan for over seven years before being shot dead by US forces, senior Pakistani security officials said on Saturday, a disclosure that could further anger key ally Washington over the presence of enemy number one in the country.

One of Bin Laden’s widows told Pakistani investigators that the world’s most wanted man stayed in a village for nearly two and a half years before moving to the nearby garrison town of Abbottabad, where he was killed.

The wife, Amal Ahmed Abdulfattah, told investigators earlier that Bin Laden and his family had spent five years in Abbottabad, before one of the world’s most elaborate and expensive manhunts ended there on Monday.

Ahmadinejad to Resign?

Waiting on confirmation.
A few minutes ago on May 5, 2011, Arab TV announced that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini requested Iran's President Ahmadinejad to step down from his post. This has not been confirmed nor verified by Western media as yet, however, it has been reported that several of his close aids are already under arrest.

Jobless Claims Rise 43,000 to 474,000

JEEEZ!
Initial claims for unemployment insurance in the U.S. rose to 474,000 in the week ending April 30, which represents an increase of 43,000 compared to the previous week, the U.S. Labor Department (DOL) said on Thursday.

The unexpected rise in unemployment claims marked the nation's highest in the last eight months, which could cause further concern in the labor market, but several factors could be attributed to the jobless claims rise, including temporary layoffs during spring break.

Other factors in the increase of unemployment claims also include auto industry shutdowns in Japan, following the catastrophic earthquake in March that triggered the country's ongoing nuclear crisis, as well as Oregon's recent emergency benefit program.

According to the latest DOL report, the 4-week moving average was 431,250, an increase of 22,250 from the previous week's revised average of 409,000.

High-Earning Households Pay Growing Share of Taxes.

Ominous indeed.
As President Barack Obama pushes to raise income taxes on high earners, opponents are seizing on data that indicates these U.S. households already pay a large and growing share of taxes, even compared with high-tax European countries. And a new congressional study concludes that the percentage of U.S. households owing no federal income tax climbed to 51% for 2009.

Republicans are expected to highlight these figures at a congressional hearing Tuesday. They oppose Mr. Obama's proposal to increase taxes for high earners, defined as families making more than $250,000 per year, as a way to help close large federal budget deficits

"Most taxpayers are skeptical that the answer to our fiscal problems is for them to sacrifice more, when more than half of all households are not paying any income taxes and an increasingly smaller group of Americans is shouldering the burdens for an increasing larger group of Americans," said Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee.

As of 10:49 p.m. EST, the Conservatives were elected or leading in 164 seats, followed by the NDP with 103, Liberals with 32 and the Bloc with four. A party needs to capture 155 seats to win a majority in the House of Commons.

After Osama: Stop feeding the beast

The real lesson to be learned from the bin Laden saga.
After years of former Pakistani military dictator General Musharraf assuring the world that bin Laden was either dead or in Afghanistan, he was found and dispatched by US special forces in the town of Abbottabad, a mere 30 miles - 50km - as the crow flies from the capital Islamabad.

Abbottabad is a colonial era army "cantonment" or garrison town and home to the Pakistan Military Academy PMA Kakul, less than two miles from the compound in question. To put it in perspective, it is like capturing Carlos the Jackal just down the road from West Point or Sandhurst.

The notion that Pakistan’s all pervasive Army-controlled Inter-Services Intelligence was unaware of bin Laden's presence beggars belief.

Boston Globe Reporter Hid Information on Obama’s Father From the Public For 2 Years

And newspapers such as the Boston Globe wonder why they're hanging on by their fingernails.
A Boston Globe reporter hid information on Barack Obama’s father for at least two years as she worked on a novel about the man’s life.

I posted the story on our web site and then watched to see what kind of reaction, if any, there would be. A small part of me wondered if The Independent — something we have worked so hard to establish as a credible and reliable community news source — would be written off as a bunch of crackpots. After all, we’re not even members of the Associated Press. We’re not even the third largest newspaper in mostly rural Mohave County.

Then, a day later, the Boston Globe published its story, written by reporter Sally Jacobs, which included the following:

”The INS documents, released to this reporter through a Freedom Of Information Act request in 2009 in the course of research on a biography of the elder Obama to be released in July, reveal Harvard’s crucial role in the tumultuous course of the president’s father’s life. The documents were made public Wednesday by the weekly newspaper, The Arizona Independent.”
