A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. telephone poll of 370 adults who watched or listened to the speech found 41 percent had a very positive opinion of it, while 37 percent indicated somewhat positive. A year ago, the number of very positive was 48 percent, and in 2005, it was 60 percent.
A CBS News Poll conducted online by Knowledge Networks of 525 viewers immediately after the speech found about 80 percent generally approve of the proposals he outlined. By comparison, the number for last year and 2005 were about the same, CBS said.
Just 32 percent of respondents said Bush will be able to accomplish all the goals he set out in his speech and 52 percent support Bush's plan to send more than 20,000 additional troops to Iraq.
Now that I find surprising.
