DNC Calls for Minting of Obama Presidential Coins

Familiarize yourself with the term "hubris" as it will be eminently applicable from here on out.Though he hasn’t yet been elected president, the Democratic National Committee has called for the minting of coins with presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama’s image on them. Traditionally, no living person has ever appeared on U.S. money of any kind. The proposed break with precedent is being labeled “educational.”

“Many people in this country don’t know who is president,” DNC chairman Howard Dean said. “By having the president’s face and name on our coins we will have a daily instruction on who is ruling this nation.”

Flailing Bailout

Fox...Boehner: the bailout bill is now "in serious doubt."

UPDATE: 207 Yea-227 Nay, Bailout initiative fails!

AJ Strata asks: Obama Claimed Bailout Was His Success, Will It Be His Failure?

A totally legitimate question, however, I'll give great odds it will never be asked by anyone in the MSM.

Cadbury recall all chocolate made in China

Dang, I had some a few weeks back.
British chocolate giant Cadbury today ordered a recall of its Chinese-made products after revealing tests have ‘cast doubt’ on its safety.

It is feared the sweets could contain melamine-laced milk, which has been blamed for killing four children in China and making around 50,000 ill.

McCain will attend debate

Good., these in all liklihood will decide the election.
WASHINGTON (CNN ) — Republican presidential nominee John McCain has decided to travel to Mississippi to participate in Friday night's presidential debate with his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, McCain campaign staff said.

McCain said earlier this week he would not attend the debate if an agreement had not been reached on a $700 billion bailout plan for Wall Street.

The campaign said the Republican presidential nominee believed that enough progress had been made for him to travel to Mississippi to participate in the debate, set for 9 p.m. ET at the University of Mississippi campus.

PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk

SAY WHAT?
VERMONT -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman.

"PETA's request comes in the wake of news reports that a Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves," the statement says.

PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies on factory farms and benefit human health
Too many quips to even contemplate.

Obama's Garden to Nowhere Probed

Just more evidence of what a lightweight this man truly is...
A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.

The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association, which was in charge of the project for the blighted South Side neighborhood.

McCain Suspending Campaign to Go Back To Washington

Smart move and the right thing to do.
NEW YORK (AP) - Republican John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign and the debate commission to delay Friday's debate because of the economic crisis.

In a statement, McCain says he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Bill Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems.

McCain also said he wants President Bush to convene a leadership meeting in Washington. Both he and Obama would attend the session.
UPDATE: Apparently ex-Pres Clinton agrees.

Assault by Fart

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- As if getting a DUI wasn’t enough, a man arrested for driving under the influence got in a lot more trouble at the police station.
Police stopped Jose Cruz on Route 60 in South Charleston Monday night for driving with his headlights off.

Then, he failed sobriety tests and was arrested.

When police were trying to get fingerprints, police say Cruz moved closer to the officer and passed gas on him. The investigating officer remarked in the criminal complaint that the odor was very strong.

Cruz is now charged with battery on a police officer, as well as DUI and obstruction.
Man what that guy must have eaten to elevate passing wind to an assault charge. Wonder how many carbon credits that'll cost him.

Biden garbles Depression history

Dan Quail on steroids...
Joe Biden's denunciation of his own campaign's ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed," Biden told Couric. "He said, 'Look, here's what happened.'"

Poll: Palin helping GOP with women

Imagine that.
WASHINGTON, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as Republican U.S. vice presidential nominee has greatly increased the GOP ticket's appeal to women, a poll indicates.

Since she was chosen by Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Palin has helped the GOP ticket erase a once-wide lead held by Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois on the question of who best understands women's issues, Politico, a Washington publication, reported Monday.

Citing a survey by pollsters Kellyanne Conway and Celinda Lake for Lifetime Television, the Web site said the McCain-Palin team holds a 44 percent-to-42 percent lead over the Democratic ticket on who has a "better understanding of women and what is important" to them. Obama held a 52 percent-to-18 percent lead on the question in July, the pollsters said.

Lowering the Bar.....Again

Eyebrows raised over city school policy that sets 50% as minimum score
Pittsburgh Public Schools officials say they want to give struggling children a chance, but the district is raising eyebrows with a policy that sets 50 percent as the minimum score a student can receive for assignments, tests and other work.

The district and teachers union last week issued a joint memo to ensure staff members' compliance with the policy, which was already on the books but enforced only at some schools. Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers President John Tarka said the policy is several years old.

While some districts use "F" as a failing grade, the city uses an "E."

"The 'E' is to be recorded no lower than a 50 percent, regardless of the actual percent earned. For example, if the student earns a 20 percent on a class assignment, the grade is recorded as a 50 percent," said the memo from Jerri Lippert, the district's executive director of curriculum, instruction and professional development, and Mary VanHorn, a PFT vice president.

Sandra Bernhard Gets Away with Racist Anti-Palin Tirade

This women is as ugly and vile on the inside as she is on the outside.
Commenting on the media’s frenzied, foaming-at-the-mouth anti-McCain and Palin viciousness, Victor Davis Hanson has noted that overall, the mainstream media’s efforts to help Obama are backfiring: “Strange to say, they don’t seem to get it that they are, well, not liked or respected.” The same would seem to hold true for Hollywood actors who are growing ever more rabid in their support for the Democratic presidential nominee.

But Barack Obama might want to beware of his glamorous high-profile fans, because if there’s one thing Hollywood loves more than a high-priced cocktail party in support of its man of the moment, it’s uttering foul, racist diatribes after one too many of those cocktails.

There are many examples. Take Michael “Kramer” Richard’s racist spewing and Dog the Bounty Hunter’s career-ending slurs. Paris Hilton’s sex video may have made internet search history, but what about the video of her racist ravings?

Dems Oppose Bush Plan To Rein in Fannie and Freddie

The Patriot Room comes through again with this article in the New York Times from 5 years ago.
The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.
Five words, MSM do your freakin jobs!!!

DEAD EVEN AGAIN

Most of you regular readers know that this thing has been basically even for 2 months. The Dems got a convention bump then did the Republiblicans and here we are 7 weeks from election day even again.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows Barack Obama gaining ground on John McCain for the third time in four days. The race for the White House is now tied with both candidates attracting 48% of the vote. Just a few days ago, McCain enjoyed a three-percentage point lead (see trends). Results are released every day at 9:30 a.m. Eastern and a FREE daily e-mail update is available.

The closeness of the race is confirmed by new state polling from Wisconsin and Oregon. While the ugliness of campaigns is always annoying to voters, just 23% believe that Election 2008 is more negative than most.
We are basicaslly a 55/45% nation. What makes this close is Iraq war residual resentment, economy worries and the generic general desire for indiscriminate change. Expect a rerun of 2000 with maybe Ohio being ground zero this time around.

Obama More Negative

Despite perceptions that John McCain has spent more time on the attack, Barack Obama aired more negative advertising last week than did the Arizona senator, says a new study released today.

Seventy-seven percent of the Illinois Democrat's commercials were negative during the week after the Republican convention, compared to 56 percent of the spots run by McCain.
Uh no, despite reportage.

Logan Act...What Me Worry

Obama Undermines Own Country, Media Ignores It; Why? They Want What He Wants

The Press will ignore this just as long as they possibly can but sooner or later it's hitting the fan.
Once again, the mainstream media’s behavior is being called into question – and once again, the reasons for it are obvious.

It is now becoming abundantly clear that Barack Obama, in a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, tried to undermine his own country’s negotiations with Iraq during his July visit to Baghdad. Even the Obama campaign can’t deny it because there were multiple witnesses to the exchange.

So once again, conservatives begin raising the question: Why is the mainstream media ignoring this story? They’re treating it like they treated the John Edwards affair story, which they ignored until they no longer could. But this is much more serious. The Democratic nominee for president of the United States attempted to scuttle a crucial status-of-forces agreement between the U.S. and the government of Iraq. He blatantly urged the Iraqis to stop negotiating with the Bush Administration and wait until the next president – presumably him, at least as far as he’s concerned – takes office.

While the media desperately seeks a relevant angle on the so-called “Troopergate” non-story out of Alaska, or perhaps investigates who paid for Sarah Palin’s tanning bed, a U.S. senator who has not been elected president attempts to undermine legitimate negotiations between the man who has and the government of the nation we would like to stop occupying as soon as possible.

Poll: Europeans prefer Obama over McCain

Taking anything from this is silly and useless. Countries and their populations have one thing paramount in their minds....what's best for THEIR country. What's best for Germany or Britain or France is not what's best for the United States. And isn't that after all why we elect our own President to look out for OUR interests.

Since Sen. Barack Obama traveled to Europe earlier this summer, advisers to Sen. John McCain's campaign have sought to raise questions about what it means for the United States to have a candidate for president who is treated as a celebrity abroad. A new poll sponsored by the German Marshall Fund that tests attitudes toward the two candidates is sure to add fuel to that fire. To the surprise of no one, Europeans are much more favorably inclined toward Obama than McCain. Nearly 7 in 10 Europeans felt favorably toward Obama, with his best reviews coming in France (85 percent)and Germany (83 percent).

McCain Closing in New York

Say what???
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- A New York poll finds Sen. Barack Obama's lead in the state has fallen to five points, down from 18 points in June.

The Siena Research Institute poll has Obama, a Democrat, leading Sen. John McCain 46 to 41 percent among likely voters in the heavily Democratic state. He led 51-33 in the June survey.
Not a good sign for the chosen one.

Obama Thinks He's Already President

OBAMA TRIED TO STALL GIS' IRAQ WITHDRAWAL
If this can be confirmed it is major...
WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Obama insisted that Congress should be involved in negotiations on the status of US troops - and that it was in the interests of both sides not to have an agreement negotiated by the Bush administration in its "state of weakness and political confusion."

Both Parties Warming Up to Oil Drilling Off U.S. Coast

Uh not really. The Democrats are beginning to realize the danger of their ridiculous stand and are coming to see what the Republicans have seen ALL ALONG.
Amid the growing silliness of the political campaign – including all that inane wackiness about lipstick on pigs and sex education for kindergartners – there appears to be growing consensus on at least one major issue. Republicans and Democrats appear to be agreeing that somewhere, sometime in the not-too-distant future, more lands beneath the sea will be opened to offshore oil drilling. On Tuesday – in seeming response to all those boisterous chants of “Drill, baby, drill” and “Drill here! Drill now!” at John McCain rallies – the House of Representatives is slated to debate a bill that would allow...
So in other words on the major issue Republicans have it right.

Palin Astute Gibson Nutty Professor

When Gov. Palin asked Charles Gibson what particular point of the Bush Doctrine he was referring to it was a very legitimate question.

Gibson is the one who proved his ignorance and shoddy research.

The Patriot Room sums it up well:
Gibson’s primary sin is trying to play gotcha by asking about a policy by its title, not by defining the elements of it (and referencing a policy “enunciated in September 2002″ is not defining it). Once he defined it (narrowing down the possible answers from 7 to 1) as preemptive strikes, she stated her agreement with the policy. The other sin is his arrogance and condescension playing smart ass and thinking that there was but one Bush Doctrine, that he knew what it was, and that this rube from Alaska didn’t.
Update: Anne-Marie Slaughter is dean of the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton. She was interviewed by Alan Johnson, for a book titled: “Global Politics After 9/11: The Democratiya Interviews.”

The exchange went as follows:

Johnson: What are the central differences, and what are the elements of continuity, if any exist, between ‘the Bush doctrine’ and the ‘grand strategy of forging a world of liberty under law’?

Slaughter: Tell me what you mean by ‘The Bush Doctrine’?

So a true foreign policy expert had exactly the same reaction as Gov Palin, go figure.

Thanx Rose of Sharon at FR.

Crude Dips Below 100 Bucks

Amazing what a strengthening dollar will do.
NEW YORK (AP) - Crude oil on the futures market briefly sank below the $100-a-barrel Friday for the first time in five months-suggesting investors believe a worsening global economy will continue to drive down demand for some time in the United States and elsewhere.

The last time crude traded below $100 a barrel was on April 2.

Democrat Congressional Woe

This is what being the majority party and having a 9% approval rating will get you...

PRINCETON, NJ -- A potential shift in fortunes for the Republicans in Congress is seen in the latest USA Today/Gallup survey, with the Democrats now leading the Republicans by just 3 percentage points, 48% to 45%, in voters' "generic ballot" preferences for Congress. This is down from consistent double-digit Democratic leads seen on this measure over the past year.
And this:
The positive impact of the GOP convention on polling indicators of Republican strength is further seen in the operation of Gallup's "likely voter" model in this survey. Republicans, who are now much more enthused about the 2008 election than they were prior to the convention, show heightened interest in voting, and thus outscore Democrats in apparent likelihood to vote in November. As a result, Republican candidates now lead Democratic candidates among likely voters by 5 percentage points, 50% to 45%.

One I've Been Watching

Of all the polls I've seen over the last couple of days, this I find the most significant and telling...

For the first time all year, John McCain has topped Barack Obama in a New Mexico poll. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows McCain attracting 49% of the vote while Obama earns 47%.

Although the two-point lead is not statistically significant in a poll with a four-point margin of sampling error, it’s quite an improvement for McCain from August. At that time, Obama was ahead 48% to 44% (with leaners included). Since then, the Republican has gained ground among Hispanic voters and those not affiliated with either major party.

Don't Taze me Dad!

Forget removed, this jerk should have been indicted for felonious assault.

ALASKAN State Trooper Mike Wooten admitted yesterday he had used a Taser stun gun on Sarah Palin's nephew, his stepson, but claimed he was no danger to her family.

Mr Wooten - who is Mrs Palin's former brother-in-law - is at the heart of a legislative investigation into whether the Republican vice-presidential nominee abused her power as Alaska Governor.

The state legislature is investigating whether she fired former public safety commissioner Walt Monegan because he would not dismiss Mr Wooten, who went through a messy divorce from Mrs Palin's sister, Molly.

"Lipstick on a Pig"

Personally I don't think it's all that big a deal. That being said I do despise the double standard and disingenuous spin and excuse making by the MSM and Obama campaign. If a republican would have been in similar circumstance he'd (or she'd) have beeen pilloried.

He made an inference joke (a lame one) and knew exactly what he was doing. It pushed the envelope but, hey, politics ain't beanbag. One of the few times I'll ever use this term but "move on".

The Farmers Almanac has a helluva lot better track record than Al Gore.
DUBLIN, N.H. — The Old Farmer’s Almanac is going further out on a limb than usual this year, not only forecasting a cooler winter, but also looking ahead decades to suggest we are in for global cooling, not warming.

Based on the same time-honored, complex calculations it uses to predict weather, the almanac hits the newsstands today saying a study of solar activity and corresponding records on ocean temperatures and climate point to a cooler, not warmer, climate, for perhaps the next half-century.

Obama and Biden Voted for Bridge to Nowhere

I read somewhere this weekend that when Democrats get desperate they will pick up ANY stick unfortunately for them it's oftentimes a boomerang. Such is the case here...
Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), SHE eventually KILLED THE PROJECT, choosing to spend Federal money on other infrasturcture programs.

However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted FOR funding the Bridge, EVEN when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.

Sen. McCain did not vote on the Coburn Amendment, though he is ON RECORD AS OPPSOING the Ketchikan bridge earmark

MSNBC Takes Incendiary Hosts From Anchor Seat

The only people who should be upset about this are the Obama campaign and the pathetic trolls at Kos and the DU.
MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

Dead Heat [Updated....Well Perhaps a Bit Better]

As predicted the three latest polls out show a reasonable bump for McCain /Palin and we are now statistically tied:

Zogby: McCain-Palin 49.7% Obama-Biden 45.9% 44.6%

Rasmussen: McCain 46% Obama 46%

Gallup: McCain Moves Ahead, 48% to 45%

Considering the persistent oversampling of Democrats and the "Bradley" effect which will undoubtedly play a part, this cannot make the Obama camp happy. The momentum has changed and unless Hussein can figure out how to get it back he's in for some tough sledding.

Update: McCain leads Obama by 54%-44% among likely voters. CRIKEY!

The Rangel scandal deepens

Old crazy Uncle Charlie appears to be more than a bit crooked as well...

Charles Rangel, a man who writes federal tax laws as head of the House Ways and Means Committee, not only failed to pay taxes on income he received from a luxury resort property he owns, he financed the purchase with an interest-free loan from a campaign backer who is also a politically active lawyer.
Welcome NYT readers.

Dead Solid Even

When the polls next week begin to reflect the bounce McCain/Palin pick up from the convention it's going to show them up by a couple but essentially reflect a tied race. Even though this country is slightly center right, that is being offset by mistakes made by the present administration, queeziness concerning the economy and gas prices and the natural desire for change after eight years of the same party in the WH.

Unless something earth shattering takes place along the way, in the debates for example, this election will end up being every bit as tight at 00. It's all about turnout and fortunately for John McCain he guaranteed a significantly higher one with his pick as VP.

Quote of the Week

FERGUS SHANAHAN remarking on Sarah Palin and their [the Brits] dull politicians in chambers: " We need a moose loose in our Hoose".

Subscribers Tell Us Magazine Where to Stick it.

Free speech is a wonderful thing but malicious ofuscation to sell mags comes with a price.

Three celebrity weeklies — OK!, People and Us Weekly — featured Sarah Palin on their cover, but one of those magazines is reportedly losing subscribers because of it.

Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (“Babies, Lies and Scandal”) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.

“I’m hearing it’s 5,000, maybe more,” says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions. A spokesperson for Wenner Media, which publishes Us, says “it is completely false that we are losing 10,000 subscribers.” As for the 5,000 estimate, the spokesperson only said “that is false, too,” but wouldn’t comment further.

HOMERUN!

Palins speech was better than even I expected, it was bordering on perfection. Even the liberal hit pieces out this morning must acknowledge how good it truly was.

Now just keep up with the smears and we'll pick up 100,000 votes a day.

That was easy. Sarah Palin delivered what may have been the most important speech ever by a vice presidential candidate and made it look like she'd been performing on the national political stage for years. And she made John McCain look good for having picked her as his running mate.

Yet, as governor of Alaska, Palin had never addressed as large a crowd as she did last night at the Republican convention. She'd never before given a nationally televised speech in prime time. And she'd never had to deal with a situation filled with such political peril for her, McCain, and the Republican party.

So how in the world could this 44-year-old woman with no national political experience handle the whole thing with poise and composure and seeming effortlessness? Simple. She's a natural, gifted with the ability to connect with people in a way that few politicians can and to perform under extreme pressure. She has star quality.

Political figures like this don't come along very often. And heaven knows Republicans haven't seen anyone like Palin emerge from their ranks since Ronald Reagan first attracted national attention in 1964. That's a long time to wait. They've been starved for a leader with charisma and a knack for leadership. Now they have one.
Update: Most of you recall last month I recommended a course of action for McCain to take when selecting his VP: [Memo to McCain: Palin or Romney, that is all.] Well, I was wrong, I should have recommended only one choice and thank goodness John McCain knew the correct one.

And are "wet pants" friends at Powerline seem to have seen the light.

Feisty, funny, fierce and the future.

Quote of the Day

The Democrats' support of women's rights, it seems, is restricted only to the most convenient political situation: liberal women versus white males. When it's liberal women versus black males -- see Clinton vs. Obama -- the left dumps women's rights in favor of racial gains. When it's conservative women versus anybody, the left ignores women's rights completely.

Disingenuous Spin of the Week

The Press has come up with a ridiculous albeit interesting spin on the Sarah Palin nomination for Veep. Their ruthless and vile smearing of her family and her (as a parent) is really McCains fault because she wasn't properly vetted.
It's akin to a murderer blaming the police for not catching him sooner so he couldn't kill again. It's the most self deluding rationalization I've heard in a very long time and only a group with the monumental ego and unmitigated Chutzpa of the Press could possibly offer it up with a straight face.

The truth is that McCain properly vetted Palin and knew every detail of what is presently being vomited by much of the MSM. He deemed whatever "blemishes" revealed to be either inconsequential or baseless.

His only miscalculation may have been not to realize the depth of merciless partisanship and banality of the American Press.

Update: Appears that McCain has had enough.

A national-security endorsement of Palin

Frank J. Gaffney Jr. of the Center for Security Policy rises to the defense of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin:
"Listening to her critics, one might think that John McCain's chosen running-mate is a complete ignoramus when it comes to matters of national security. In fact, Sarah Palin's background in Alaska, including most recently her service as that state's governor, suggests that the judgment of the Republicans' candidate for Vice President with respect to this portfolio is likely to be substantially better than that of either Barak Obama or Joe Biden."
Bears repeating: "likely to be substantially better than that of either Barak Obama or Joe Biden." Agreed Mr Gaffney and well stated.

First Spotless Month in a Century

Drop in solar activity has potential effect for climate on earth.

The sun has reached a milestone not seen for nearly 100 years: an entire month has passed without a single visible sunspot being noted.

The event is significant as many climatologists now believe solar magnetic activity –which determines the number of sunspots -- is an influencing factor for climate on earth.
According to data from Mount Wilson Observatory, UCLA, more than an entire month has passed without a spot. The last time such an event occurred was June of 1913. Sunspot data has been collected since 1749.
Gee, ya think.

The $10,000,000 Dollar Women

The McCain campaign raised more than $10 million in the two and a half days after Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was named as the vice presidential running mate, bringing the total raised in the month of August to more than $47 million, campaign officials tell ABC News. The final, official figures are expected to be reported in the next few days, but the amount appears to be a record for the McCain campaign, almost twice as much as it has raised in any other single month. "We're still counting,"...
The left better be damned careful with the Bristol Palin story or it will end up being 10 times that!

US Military Hands Control of Anbar to Iraqi Forces

Milestone...
The U.S. military Monday handed control of Iraq's Anbar province to Iraqi security forces.

U.S. forces will withdraw to bases and rejoin Iraqi operations in Anbar only at the request of the provincial governor.

Anbar is a Sunni-dominated province whose inhabitants turned against U.S. forces soon after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Anbar towns, such as Fallujah and Ramadi became insurgent strongholds, where militants waged fierce battles against U.S. troops.

Violence in Anbar began to subside in 2006 when Sunni tribes became weary of al-Qaida's brutality against the local population. The tribes formed councils and joined U.S.-led forces in fighting the group.
